Jenny Turns 40

Sunday was my first time conducting in primary. Except now we have the older kids conduct so mostly I had to make sure we had someone to do that and make sure the prayer and talk were assigned. Tyler subbed for singing time that Sunday and combined with my preperations and his personality, it went really well. He would make a great chorister if they didn't always put him in these big callings. Afterwards I taught my lesson and Tyler sat with me for it. The kids actually behaved pretty well. I think they are all scared of him.

Monday morning I went on a walk to the library with Penny and Ruby. We had borrowed a princess Toniebox from the library and brought it back with us and were excited to find a paw patrol one available when we got there. However, we later found that it wasn't as much of a hit as the princess one with Ruby. Still it's been fun to try out the Toniebox with Ruby for free. But also I now want to own one so that might have to be a Christmas present for Ruby.

Tuesday was Lucy's last day babysitting. She was so happy to be done and fine with just mowing our lawn to earn money for the rest of the summer. It seems she has decided that some jobs are not worth the money. While she was babysitting I did a Kohl's run with Penny and Ruby for various things. Penny ended up getting silver glitter Converse shoes on clearance and was so excited by her find that she wore them in the house for the rest of the day and made sure to show them off to every one. The shoes also inspired Lucy and she wanted a pair of Converse shoes too so we got her a black pair the next day. That afternoon Mimi came over and her mom trusts Ben enough that I was able to leave them with him while I went to Target with Lucy. It's nice that her mom is getting comfortable with all of us.

Wednesday the inspectors finally came to check out Tyler's work on the bathroom. The plumber passed off Tyler's work which wasn't much of a surprise but the electrician did not. Unfortunately what Tyler didn't pass on was a mistake from the previous owner but since Tyler "touched" it, it was now on him. Super frustrating. Now he will need to fix that problem and then get things reinspected before moving on with it. Maybe we will have a new bathroom by Christmas or is that too optimistic?

Wednesday afternoon Grace trimmed, dyed, and styled my hair. She always does amazing work with my hair. There was a lady in the chair next to me who kept staring at me and I would like to think it was because of the amazing transformation that occured, lol. All I know was that it was extremely awkward. Besides her staring though, I had a good time chatting with Grace about all the things.

That night I went to Belle Isle with Caroline for a 40th birthday photo shoot. Mostly all the pictures I have of me are selfies with kids so I thought it would be nice to get some extra special pics of me for my 40th. Just kind of wanted to show that I exist outside of my kids and get a bit of a self esteem boost and I think I succeeded in both. Caroline made me feel like a million bucks (except for the time she claimed I was doing a foot pop incorrectly, I saw the video I was doing it just fine ;) ) and the pictures turned out so good. Funny moments- getting whistled at by a random passer byer, trying to wrangle balloons in the wind, a random stool appearing by where we were taking pictures, and being told by a random passer byer to make this moment count. Also, I should give Lucy a shout out for letting me borrow her brand new Converse shoes (yes, we are now wearing the same size shoes)/

Thursday night the girls and I took Ben to work and then bought a banana split to share. We were disappointed that Ben didn't actually make it for us but we still got to catch glimpses of him at the window giving other people their ice cream. We even got to watch him endure a "Karen" that wasn't happy that her ice cream was melting.

Friday was my 40th Birthday and I decided to spend the morning at Milford Memories. I went with my youngest 4 kids, Lucy's friend Claire and my friends Julie and Nahoko and their kids. It was warm and humid but thankfully there were clouds and a breeze that would come out occasionally and make things more tolerable. I got there early (9:30) but parking in the neighborhoods was already full and hard to find. We got lucky though and didn't end up too far away. We then walked to the park and waited for our friends to get there and then for everything to open. Once things were open we went to the kids tent where there were some fun crafts and prizes.

When they finished at the kids tent we got shaved ice because it has become a tradition apparently. I also was going to get my absolute favorite soft pretzels but they weren't at the fair this year. That was such a disappointment. After I recovered from that disappointment it was time to check out all the booths. There is always so many neat things that I want to buy- like wooden inserts for Ruby's sensory table and some things that look pretty when they blow in the wind and beautiful artwork- but in the end I got some fun earrings (that were sold by one of the girls' friends from school), and a doll outfit (for Penny's birthday). And Lucy bought yet another stuffie. We also had a teen from our Ward (Gavin) make the kids some dogs and swords out of balloons. His club from high school was making them so that was fun. Gavin even made me a birthday crown which I failed to document.

After we got back from Milford Memories, I was beat, so I had Tyler go pick me up some Jimmy Johns and then I had some quiet time while Ruby napped. When she finished with her nap, I got to open all my gifts. I was spoiled. I got an Amazon giftcard from my parents, a botanical Lego set from Ben, licorice from Penny, a hairclaw from Lucy, some fun coloring supplies from my in laws, a succulent lego set from my brother's family, a card game and flowers from my friend Corrine (she had both mailed to me), and Tyler got me a Mandrake Lego set and a puzzle.

That night we had my party at Grace's home. I am so glad she hosted because that meant I didn't have to worry about cleaning my home and it also meant that I wasn't relying on Tyler for decorations and food because if I was, I probably would have had to help. The guests who attended were: Grace, Jason, Nahoko, Eric, Melissa, Alan, and Caroline. While we waited for food to cook, my friends thumbed through a scapbook that Tyler had brought. It was a bit embarrassing but also kind of fun for them to see my past self. Then we had Mexican food- enchiladas, chips and salsa, beans and rice- and it was all so good. After that Tyler brought our a tray of my favorite candy/treats and we munched on that and chatted for a bit. Next we painted our spouses. Since Caroline's spouse wasn't there, she painted me. That was probably the best part of the party. Lots of good belly laughs, especially with the final reveal. For some reason Tyler made me with silver skin so I looked like a cyborg or something. I made him look like a cartoon character. Caroline's painting of me actually looked like me, it was great.

When we finished painting, Tyler asked everyone questions about the 80's and me. I thought he was going to do more of a Jeopardy style but he literally just asked questions, kind of lame to be honest. He also revealed some embarrassing things about me. So maybe not my favorite part of the party. Then it was time for cake and presents. Tyler made an ice cream cake because I figured that would be the biggest crowd pleaser and also the easiest thing for him to make. It turned out good. I was not going to open presents in front of everyone but they made me. Grace got me lego art that I get to make that will be my face when it's done, lol. Probably the best gift. Melissa got me a botanical lego set which happened to be the same one that Ben got me. Nahoko got me some candy. And Caroline printed off a few of the pictures she took of me. All in all I was very spoiled and it was a great birthday.

Saturday was super unexciting. I cleaned the house, only to watch Tyler mess it up as he worked on the electrical wiring that had to be fixed. Working on that involved cutting a hole in the ceiling of the downstairs bathroom that I had just cleaned. And that was pretty much the extent of my Saturday.
